Steer Horn Okra) Abelmoschus esculentus Origin: USA Item #: OKRA003 Cowhorn Okra, also known as Steer's Horn Okra is a very old Southern variety of Okra that takes its name from the horns of the Texas Longhorn steer. Though Cowhorn Okra was once rare, it is gradually making a slow comeback. Cowhorn is a very large Okra variety that grows up to 6 to 7 feet in height and produces a large number of extra large, ribbed medium-green colored pods that reach up to 12 inches in length. The pods have a curved tip and possess a likeness to a cow's horn, hence the name. Though the edible pods grow to such lengths and sizes, they are best when harvested at six inch lengths which is when they are still very tender.
