The Louisiana Sweet Watermelon is a 1971 introduction from the North Louisiana Experimental Station and arose by crossing the varieties Summit and Fairfax. Originally, this watermelon variety was released under the name of Louisiana Queen, but in subsequent years has undergone a name change. Louisiana Sweet or Louisiana Queen is similar in appearance to the watermelon variety Dixie Queen and was developed completely with the average watermelon consumer in mind.

Louisiana Sweet produces an abundance of rounded, oblong watermelons with a medium green colored rind overcast by dark green stripes. Each watermelon weighs approximately 25 pounds. Its tough, abuse resistant rind, when sliced open reveals a wonderful crisp, finely textured flesh that possesses a brilliant red color and a truly outstanding flavor. Its seeds are of a medium size and are black stippled in color.

Features a high tolerance to Fusarium Wilt and Anthracnose.
