White Wonder is a beautiful and very rare watermelon variety with snow-white flesh that is so pale and transparent in color that it almost looks like ice!

The White Wonder Watermelon produces a good crop of small, 3 to 10 pound, round icebox type watermelons. In addition to the crisp white flesh, White Wonder also features a truly unique, sweet flavor that makes this variety absolutely perfect for gourmet fruit growers who have their sights set on the higher end of the market.

Though they are very rare today, white fleshed Watermelons were once very common back in the 1800's. Reputedly, the Henry Field Seed Co. continued to carry white fleshed watermelons into the early 1970's. Unfortunately, due to a more corporatized seed industry in recent years, these lovely, old fashioned white watermelon varieties are now rapidly dying out and are in serious danger of extinction.

The vines are also shorter than big fruited watermelon vines which is ideal for those with limited space. Developed with the home gardener in mind. An open pollinated Ice Box Midget watermelon variety with sweet red flesh and a smooth, round dark green shape. The Dixielee Watermelon is a wonderful icebox watermelon that was introduced in 1979 by the Agricultural Research Center of the University of Florida. Presumeably, this wonderful watermelon was developed by crossing together the following varieties: Texas W5, Fusarium Wilt Resistant Peacock, Fairfax, Summit and Graybelle. Dixielee Watermelons produce a round fruit with distinct stripes like the variety Jubilee that weigh in the neighborhood of 20 pounds. The Sugarlee Watermelon is a development of the Agricultural Research Center at the University of Florida. The variety was intoduced in 1981 and came about by crossing the varieties Texas W5, Summit, Charleston Gray, Fairfax, Crimson Sweet and Graybelle.

Sugarlee Watermelons are an exceptionally early variety of watermelon and produces an abundance of round icebox type watermelons in the vicinity of 15 pounds with markings similar to Jubilee. Its touch rind makes it suitable for shipping purposes and its sweet red flesh is firm and possesses a high sugar content . Its seeds are medium sized and are black stipple marked.
