Planter's Jumbo Melon Origin: United States Item #: MELON013 Planter's Jumbo Melon is similiar to the Hale's Best Jumbo Melon and was released in 1954 by the USDA Vegetable Breeding Labratory at Charleston, South Carolina. This truly impressive melon variety produces an abundance of large, 4 to 5 pound uniform melons. The melons are very attractive, have a slightly ribbed shell and are heavily netted. Their thick orange flesh has a very good, sweet nutty flavor that is on par with Estido melon types and a very small seed cavity. Will do well in most climates, including those subject to drought or high rainfall. Resistant to downy and powdery mildews. Matures in 85 to 90 days.
