Dwarf Siberian Kale Origin: Russia Item #: KALE001 Siberian kales differ from the more common Scotch kales in that the foliage is a bluish-green in color and its leaves are less curled. Originally from Central Russia, Thomas Jefferson commonly included Siberian Kale in his kitchen garden at Monticello. Enough good things cannot be said about this great kale variety and of particular note is its ability to withstand even the coldest climates. In regards to our Siberian Kale, Ms. Morris of Essex in the UK sent us the following report about her recent kale growing experience: "Here is a funny story you might enjoy: We recently received various seeds from you including Siberian Kale seeds. I had planned to sow the kale seeds in July, but somehow the packet got into the washing machine by mistake (perhaps something to do with my 2-year old son?) and inadvertently underwent a 3-hr 60 degree wash with a load of nappies! I was sure the seeds would be denatured, but I sowed them all just to be quite sure. They germinated in 2 days! A month on, they are now flourishing in the garden, approx. 8 inches tall and extremely healthy! These have to be the most resilient vegetable seeds I've ever come across!
