Royal Chico is a very, very productive paste tomato that was originally developed for commercial purposes in Chico, California. Originally introduced by Peto Seed in 1976. Royal Chico Tomatoes are very closely related to the famous variety Roma which is widely used commercially in the United States. Royal Chico is lower in acid than many other paste tomatoes and is perfect for rendering into tomato paste or for canning.

Royal Chico produces an incredibly high yield of slightly pear-shaped, red meaty fruits that are somewhat larger than the tomatoes produced by the variety Roma. Being very productive and disease resistant, Royal Chico is perfect for both home and market use.

As Royal Chico has since been replaced commercially by the many hybrid tomato varieties that are sweeping the commercial tomato industry, this variety is now becoming very rare.
