Blue Lake Bush Bean Seeds
Blue Lake Bush Bean (Blue Lake #274 Bean)
Origin: USA
Item #: BUSHBEAN002

The Blue Lake Bush Bush Bean (also known as the Blue Lake #274 Bean) is a bush version of the famous Blue Lake Pole Bean that is hands down, historically, the best Pole Bean ever offered anywhere in the world. Having originally been introduced by the Asgrow Company in 1962, Blue Lake #274 combined the great flavor and production of the original Blue Lake Bean on an easy to manage, upright bush-type plant of 15 to 18 inches in height. There has been no looking back ever since, for the Blue Lake Bush Bean (or Blue Lake #274 Bean) quickly became the most widely grown bush bean variety in the United States and has remained so for over 35 years!

The Blue Lake Bush Bean (or Blue Lake #274 Bean) features a lush, green upright bush type plant that produces an abundance of old fashioned 5 to 5.5 inch long green, stringless pods. The pods possess an exceptional, sweet flavor like green beans are meant to have. When cooked, the meaty, white seeded bean pods retain their firmness. Unlike other bush bean varieties, Blue Lake Bush Beans retain their tenderness over a long period. If harvested regularly, the Blue Lake Bush Bean will continue to yield a heavy crop over the entire season.

This wonderful bush bean variety is a must for every garden and is resistant to Bean Mosaic virus and adapts to a wide range of climates.

Although this variety, like all other bush beans are best used fresh, the "green beans" of this variety are exceptional for storage, either canned or frozen. In fact, this variety was once the dominant canning bean on the market! Matures in 50 to 60 days.

Black Turtle Bean
Origin: Central America
Item #: BUSHBEAN004

The Black Turtle Bean, also known as Black Beans, Turtle Beans, Black Spanish Beans, Tampico Beans, and Venezuelan Beans are becoming more and more popular every year, in part due to immigration from Latin American countries where the Black Turtle Bean is so widely used in soups, stews, sauces, for sprouts and much more. Black Turtle Beans are used dried, which was originally due to the fact they could be stored for up to a year and provided a good source of protein in the winter months back in the old days. As Black Turtle Beans are originally native to South America (and were introduced to the United States in the late 1700's), they require a long, warm season to perform well.

The plant of the Black Turtle Bean is a hardy bush-type plant that is very disease resistant and handles drought and heat very well.

The beans themselves are small (about the size of the common Garden Pea), of an oval shape and have a very beautiful, jet-black coloration with a cream colored interior with a sweet., earthy taste.

Mature in 90 to 120 days.

Kidney Bean seeds
Dark Red Kidney Bean
Origin: USA
Item #: DRYBEAN001

The Dark Red Kidney Bean is the famous dry bean that is used in Chili Con Carne and various other well known dishes. This variety is also known as the Red Bean, which sometimes causes confusion between it and the Adzuki Bean. The Red Kidney is a medium sized variety of the common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) and features a dark red shell with a cream colored flesh. Its popularity can be attributed to its excellent flavor and many uses.

Dark Red Kidney Beans are a bush variety which are produced on a sturdy plant which yields an abundance of hearty pods that contain five large red, kidney shaped beans.

Kidney Beans may be dried or canned, but either way, great care must be taken to boil Kidney Beans for at least 10 minutes before consume them. Kidney Beans contain a toxic compund called lectin phytohaemagglutinin which can cause severe stomach upset if the beans are eaten raw. Boiling degrades this compound.
